Gators to present "The (dis)Concert(ed) Choir" as 2012-13 One Act Play
October 16, 2012
Wisner-Pilger's actors and actresses have been busy fitting in morning and evening rehearsal times as the Gator play production team prepares for the 2012 performance season. This fall, the Gators will present "The (dis)Concert(ed) Choir, written by Alan Haehnel, with a cast and crew of fifty-one student performers.
The play centers on a high school choir concert, which on the outside appears to be rather dull and uninspired--but as the concert begins, we are made aware of the choir members' thoughts and emotions as the play progresses. "It is a major departure from our usual style of play," said Gator director Gregg Moeller, in his thirteenth year at W-P. "It requires a lot of timing, music and singing throughout the performance, and it has been a challenge. But, we're up to that challenge, and we are looking to be competitive again this fall." Last year, the Gators tied Stanton for the East Husker Conference title, and finished fourth at the district championship.
Six W-P seniors on this year's cast have been involved with the school's play productions in all four years of their high school careers. They are Cody Callies, Emma Heermann, Kassadee Keilbach, Brian Leisy, Liz Moeller and Emilee Peterson. "We have a strong senior core to work with," said Moeller. "They have been to state as freshmen, and they've placed at conference twice. We are counting on their leadership and experience."
The Gators open their 2012 performance season with the thirteenth annual Wisner-Pilger Play Production Festival November 15th, along with productions from Bancroft-Rosalie, Howells-Dodge, West Point-Beemer, and Winside. Wisner-Pilger then performs at the East Husker Conference contest November 19th, and the Gators will host an evening home performance November 27th. The Gators will compete in the C1-3 district championship November 28th, along with Aquinas, Battle Creek, East Butler, Nebraska Christian, Shelby-Rising City, Stanton and Twin River. All these performances will be held at W-P's Fine Arts Auditorium.
