Bundles of Wisner-Pilger students are gearing up for the start of their speech season! Many have said they are in the process of writing their speeches and are putting in many practices during the busy school weeks this winter. The Gator Speech Team will be traveling to many different towns such as Bancroft-Rosalie, Battle Creek and The University of Nebraska- Kearney. Mr. Moeller states, “We will have eight meets this year, featuring outstanding teams, performers and coaches.” He also states that the teams that look to be our biggest challenge are Battle Creek, Wakefield, Stanton, and state powers such as David City and Hartington.
The Wisner-Pilger speech team has 21 students that are participating with some having more experience than others. Mr. Moeller explains, “Our biggest challenge will be overcoming our inexperience and finding enough preparation time. We graduated five state qualifiers from last year’s team, and lost seven varsity members overall.” He hopes that his team will be able to learn and mature throughout the season so when districts come along, they will be at full strength.
When these students are preparing for battle, we know they will be going all out for success. Mr. Moeller adds, “This team is following up one of the most successful speech teams Wisner-Pilger has had in a long time. I am looking forward to this team establishing its own identity, and being able to challenge for conference and district honors.” He also states that with such a fun and energetic bunch of performers, this season with be an enjoyable one for him.
There is no doubt the speech team will be doing their best, and we will be cheering them on in the months to come!
