Choose What’s Right!  Change What Isn’t!

The fourth quarter activities for Choose What’s Right!  Change What Isn’t! provides students an opportunity to discuss the following skills:  including everyone, including/excluding, encouragement, and friendship. 

As we continue to reinforce specific social skills during fourth quarter, we encourage everyone to continue to build upon and reinforce the following skills discussed first quarter, second quarter, and third quarter:  tone of voice, greetings, eye contact, listening, facial expression, body language and posture, compliments, personal space, tattling/reporting, self-advocating, apologizing, accepting apologies, managing self/responsibility/organization, agree to disagree, escalating vs. de-escalating, and facial expression/body language.

If you should have any questions, please contact your child’s classroom teacher.

Terra Nova Assessment

Students in Grades 2-6 will be administered the Terra Nova Achievement Test during the week of    March 8.  If you should have any questions, please contact your child’s classroom teacher or David Ludwig at the Elementary (529-6465) or the Middle School (396-3566). 

Please provide your child with plenty of rest, breakfast, and encouragement for each day of the assessment.  Your assistance in preparing your child is greatly appreciated!

Assembly:  Elementary/Middle School

An assembly entitled, “Manuel Delgado”, has been scheduled for Monday, March 8 beginning at 12:40 p.m. in the Middle School Gym and at 2:35 p.m. in the Elementary Multipurpose Room. 

Cuming County Spelling Bee

Congratulations to Sophie Glaubius (Grade 5) for placing third and Eric Leisy (Grade 6) for placing fifth in the Cuming County Spelling Bee.  The Spelling Bee was scheduled in West Point-Beemer Public Schools on Wednesday, February 10.

The following students qualified for the second round of written competition:

Eric Leisy (Gr. 6)                Macey Starman (Gr. 5)

Allissa Meyer (Gr. 5)          Sydney Williams (Gr. 6)

Elkhorn Valley Arts Unlimited:  Missoula Children’s Theatre

Elkhorn Valley Arts Unlimited is sponsoring the Missoula Children’s Theatre during the week of July 19-24, 2010 in the Fine Arts at the Jr.-Sr. High School.  This year the production is a full scale musical of “Treasure Island”, with 50-60 of our local students making up the cast.  Parents, please encourage your child/children to participate in this unique and educational project.  Please direct any questions, to Jeanette Vahle at 528-3407 or Jackie Delmont at 528-7272. 

Field Trip

Kindergarten and First Grade students will participate in a field trip to the Johnny Carson Art Center in Norfolk on Thursday, March 18.  Students will attend the 10:00 a.m. performance of “Are You My Mother?”  Additional information regarding the field trip will be provided by classroom teachers in the near future. 

Fourth Quarter

The first day of fourth quarter has been scheduled for Monday, March 15.

Hot Lunch:  Grandparents Month

During the month of March, Grandparents of Elementary/Middle School students are formally invited to eat lunch with their grandchildren.  This is a great opportunity for grandparents to spend time with their grandchildren and to tour the school.  The following weeks have been scheduled for each grade:

March    8-12                        Kindergarten, Grades 3 and 5

March  15-19                        Grades 1, 4, 5 and 6

March  22-26                        Grades 2, 4, and 6

If you cannot attend during the scheduled week, please feel free to join your grandchild at another time.  Please contact the Elementary or Middle School by 9:00 a.m. so that a meal may be reserved for you.

Nebraska Statewide Assessment-Reading (NeSA-R)

Students in grades 3-8 and 11 will participate in the first year of implementation of the Nebraska Statewide Assessment-Reading (NeSA-R) and the pilot year for the Nebraska Statewide Assessment-Math.  Each on-line assessment will be completed between March 29 and April 30.  If you should have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher or David Ludwig at the Elementary (529-6465) or the Middle School (396-3566). 

Report Cards

Third Quarter Report cards will be sent home with students on Wednesday, March 17. 

St. Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick’s Day is Wednesday, March 17.  Students may wear green and white for the day.

School Board of Education Meeting

The March School Board of Education meeting has been scheduled for Monday, March 8 beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Jr.-Sr. High School.

School Improvement External Visitation Team

An External Visitation Team comprised of Educators from Nebraska School Districts and Educational Service Units will be visiting the school district on Wednesday, March 17 and Thursday, March 18.  The purpose of the visit is to validate the district’s progress on our local Reading and Writing Goals within our School Improvement Process.  If you should have any questions, please contact David Ludwig at the Elementary (529-6465) or the Middle School (396-3566). 

Staff In-service

There will be a two-hour late start on Wednesday, March 24 due to a staff in-service.
