Night of the Golden Dragon
another successful prom
May 13, 2008
Wisner-Pilger held their own version of a red carpet affair with their 2008 prom, "Night of the Golden Dragon". There wasn't a poorly dressed soul that night and it was an evening full of events that created memories that will last everyone a lifetime.
The evening began at 6:15, April 19th by dinner being served by the 12 sophomores that were selected as servers. They included Stephanie Cox, Justine Ernesti, Lindsey Kratzsch,Tawny Nekuda,Kasey Pestel, Abigail Ringer, Garrett Borgelt, Cassius Dinkel, Josh Meaike, Travis Oligmueller, Michael Schutte, and Dustin Styskal.
Guests were given the choice between prime rib or sweet and sour chicken, both prepared by Jeanette Marx.As students finished up their meals, they had some time to socialize and take their picture taken by Hillcrest Photography. Mrs. Bodwell then organized the juniors and seniors to take class pictures. After that it was off to the auditorium for the video presentation that is usually produced by the yearbook staff.
The grand march was another heavily attended event that had many of the students anxious when it came to walk out in front of everyone. But once again, everyone did an outstanding job and people were able to enjoy the beautiful dresses and elegant tuxes that everyone had chosen to wear. Following the grand march, the 2008 prom royalty were announced. Karrie Bodwell, the junior class and prom sponsor, explained the process of how the royalty was selected. "I feel that this is a time when everyone should have an equal chance so I simply prepare a list of every girl and guy in the senior class. Then, every junior and senior get to vote for their top 3 choices for both the guys and the girls. I don't really set any stipulations, I think the students should be able to chose whomever they would like, but I do stress that it is not a popularity contest, rather it should be based more upon character and who really deserves such an honor. Either way, everyone is getting a fair chance to select whoever they want for this honor." The selected members to the royalty court this year included, Alyssa Kindschuh, Queen Karissa Marx, Kayla McCain, King Jamison Jensen, Jordan Kerkman, and Sergio Orozco.
Parents and community members were allowed some time to take some pictures and share in some memories with their children, but after a while they were pushed outside so the dance could begin.
There was a new DJ this year that the students truly enjoyed and would like to see come back. Although many of the students were exhausted by the end of the evening, they somehow found the energy to dance the last dance before heading out for the post prom party.Mrs. Bodwell commented, "This was a pretty successful year if you don't take into account that our ceiling fell down three times, one of the walls started to fall during dinner, and the video yearbook was erased the night before prom." She laughs, "Even with those events, it was a great time and all of the hard work is worth it when you see the students having a great time. Sometimes the students get overwhelmed because I have them make the majority of the decorations from scratch but I think it is a great opportunity to work hard for something that will create memories for them that will last a lifetime. By the way, we want to thank everyone that helped us collect all of the cardboard."
Feel free to catch a glimpse of a few of the memories caught on camera throughout the night by Rich Bodwell.
