Peer Education Retreat 2008
FCCLA Members "Get Their Heads in the Game"
March 04, 2008
On February 24-25, 2008, over 400 Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America members from 50 chapters across Nebraska attended the 2008 Peer Education Retreat in Kearney. The theme for the retreat this year was “Peer Ed Musical: We’re All In This Together” where FCCLA members had the opportunity to all come together to learn about Peer Education. They “Got Their Heads In The Game" by participating in sessions with dynamic speakers from the S.A.F.E. Center, Nebraska Beef Council, the State Peer Ed. Officers; entertainment by the Kearney High swing choir; and energizers led by the Peer Ed. teams.
The day began with all members gathering with a welcome and introduction of the Peer Education teams. We then had a few energizers and skits also by the Peer Teams. The large group was then broken into smaller groups and attended the keynote speaker Tim Peterson and small sessions. He discussed the importance of FCCLA members being “All In This Together” through chapter projects, team building activities, and state/national outreach projects.
The Wisner-Pilger Chapter had ten members attend the 2008 Peer Ed. Retreat including: Vanessa Bonenberger, Carrie Brockemeier, Stephanie Cox, Matthew Fergusson, Andora Hammerback, Jennifer Peterson, Jennifer Recker Jabin Sateren, Maryia Schneider, Jenna Schulz
By the end of the day everyone had a blast and was excited to return home to put to use what they learned about team building in their chapters and communities.
The members also attended a “Stop the Violence Workshop” on Sunday, where they learned about the many forms of domestic violence and some possible educational programs that might be presented.
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is a national career student organization for young men and women in family and consumer sciences education in public and private schools through grade 12. FCCLA is the only national career student organization with the family as its central focus.
